9 Weeks of Drawing Prompts for Kids

Drawing prompts can be frustrating for kids, especially when the drawing prompt is “a tree.” Kids may feel bored with the idea of drawing a tree, or they may not know how, feeling like they are uncreative. Or then there’s the long list of 150 ideas which can feel overwhelming. This is why I created these silly drawing prompts for kids.

There are seven prompts per week, so kids can pick the ones they like, or do them in order. And they’re not in a list format, so young eyes (and old ones) don’t get overwhelmed.

They offer open-ended creativity. A “dinosaur playing a musical instrument” can quickly turn into a piano playing T-Rex, a drum playing ankylosaurus, or a viola playing velociraptor. One can play on stage, the other on a volcano, the other on a moon – the choices are endless.

No matter how or when you teach art to kids, daily drawing prompts for kids are sure to get those creative juices flowing.

Use them for:

  • Morning table activity for homeschooling
  • Daily sketchbook practice
  • A quiet wind down activity after lunch
  • During read aloud time
  • Choice boards
  • Virtual/remote learning
  • Early finisher activities

Not only are there 9 full weeks of them, but the first 6 weeks have been translated into Spanish! So grab your download below and get ready to enjoy your school year with some smiles.

Looking for a sketchbook for home use? We are loving these with the colorful covers and big open space for drawing. They are also usually around $5 on Amazon.
