An Autumn Art Projects for Kids That Has Kids Jumping for Joy!
There’s nothing better than raking a huge pile of leaves only to leap inside. There’s a reason it’s one of fall’s favorite activities – and in this Autumn art project for kids, we’re capturing the joy of that first jump!
The first time my husband saw me jump into a leaf pile, he panicked. In England, they don’t jump into leaf piles with wild abandon quite the way that we do here in the Midwest – because hedgehogs could be hiding inside. Ouch!
Another one of my favorite activities in the fall is to go looking for mushrooms. We don’t have fly agarics here in Michigan (the quintessential toadstool), but every year I stumble upon something new and exciting and it never gets old.
The combo of toadstools and leaves and the joy that it brings came together in this art project – the Fall Fungus Fling.
Also – for those of you not wanting a project with too many supplies, I hear you. This one is oil pastels and watercolors – and still packs a beautiful punch.

Fall Fungus Fling Instructions
This project can be done landscape or portrait, but the landscape offers more room for the leaves.
First, draw the toadstool in the upper portion of the paper. Use a rainbow line and then a wavy line to connect them. Draw two curved lines inward for the start of the gills. Then draw the stem.
Add a face to the toadstool, as well as arms and gills.
For the legs, draw two lines straight down, and then angle them towards the edge of the page to show the jump.
Draw the leaves with yellows, oranges, and reds. Layer them on top of each other and color them in.
Outline a few of them with a darker color for contrast, and add a few floating in the sky.
Color the toadstool as desired. Peach and tan make for a more realistic stem, as does white.
Paint the sky with blues and violets, and the grass with greens and yellows.
