Food Fight | Super Bowl Art Project

A Super Bowl Art Project that will have your stomach growling!

In a battle between the Philly Cheesesteak and a BBQ Brisket Sandwich, who would take home the Super Food Bowl trophy?

This Sunday is Super Bowl LVII between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles.

I’ve always been more interested in the food vs the football game though and love thinking about what food I can make that represents the teams playing in the big game.

Kansas City is an area well-known for its BBQ and I definitely enjoyed some tasty BBQ when I lived in Missouri for 5 years.  One of my husband’s favorite sandwiches is a Philly cheesesteak.

What you'll need

  • 9×12 white sulphite paper
  • Markers, crayons, Wonder Stix, OR  oil pastels

Setting up the Playing Field

Draw a goal post in the bottom left corner and another towards the top right corner. Add a rectangle shape around each goal post.

Decide who’s playing, and add the names of the teams playing (or the name of their sandwich).

Add the first name in the top left corner and the second name on the right side of the paper.  Write VS in between where the 2 sandwiches will be.

*Feel free to substitute other menu items.  Kansas City is also known for baked beans and cheesy corn and Philadelphia is also known for its soft pretzels.

For the brisket bun, start by drawing the top half of a semicircle.  The bottom half of the bun is a much thinner slice of that circle, more of a crescent shape.  Add in various shapes for the brisket and some coleslaw on top, with some BBQ sauce dripping down the side.

For the cheesesteak, start by drawing a rectangular shape for the bottom that connects to a very long and thin oval shape for the top of the sandwich.  Add a couple spots where the cheese has melted onto the bread.

Add a variety of square and rectangle shapes for the meat, thin crescent shapes for the green bell pepper, and even smaller crescent shapes for pieces of onion.  Color these in and then go back over a few spots with a very light colored construction paper crayon, oil pastel, or wonder stix and make some melted cheese.

Touchdown!

Showdown time! Use bright colors to color around the two sandwiches creating sections of flashy color.
