A Halloween Art Project for Kids That Screams Adorable...
Almost every single evening, I have a secret bat surprise. It wakes up, flies around the screened in deck, and then makes its way out. And I’m sure you can imagine how exciting that is for me when I’m out there and I forget. So the first thing I thought of was bats for this new Halloween art project for kids.
The truth is, even though I’m always startled, bats are kind of cute. Their ears are large and make their faces seem lopsided. They look like they’re having bad hair days. And hey – I appreciate their appetite for mosquitoes.
So instead of going creepy, we’re going cute this Halloween season with a whimsical, adorable bat.
Sneak a Quick Peek of the Process
What you'll need:
9×12 white sulphite paper (2 pieces)
9×12 black sulphite paper (1 piece)
Paintbrush
Cup of water or spray bottle with water
Black Sharpie
Crayons
Scissors
Glue
Going Batty Instructions
Use a tracer, like a lid or paper plate, to trace a circle onto a piece of white sulphite or watercolor paper.
Use a paintbrush dipped in water or a spray bottle to wet the paper.
Gently drop in black and violet or blue into the water, letting the paint spread outward.
Sprinkle salt over the extra wet areas. Let dry, and brush off the salt.
When dry, brush off the salt and cut out. If some of the salt stays, it will make the moon extra sparkly.
Use a separate piece of paper to draw a bat.
Students can look at photos of bats, draw one from their imagination, or follow the steps below.
Color it in and cut out. Glue to the moon.
Glue to a black piece of paper and decorate with crayons. Stars, clouds, or pumpkins make great additions!
