Hoppy Days Collage | Springtime Art Project

What’s that bouncing down the trail? A kangaroo? An enthusiastic squirrel? Nope, not this time! It’s a bunny! And it’s on a mission – most likely snack-related. In this Hoppy Days Collage art project, kids will create a colorful springtime scene featuring a floppy-eared traveler carrying a basket down a hilly path. But this isn’t just any flat drawing—oh no! We’re adding layers of cardboard to make the foreground hop and pop, giving our bunny a true sense of adventure (and maybe a little spring in its step).

Spring is the season of new beginnings, blooming flowers, and, of course, bunnies everywhere. And what better way to celebrate than with art? Art lets kids bring their ideas to life, experiment with textures, and see their creations take shape – literally! So grab some colored paper, markers, and a bit of glue, and let’s build a world where bunnies roam, hills roll, and creativity hops off the page!

What you'll need:

  • 9×12 cardstock
  • 9×12 construction paper
  • Corrugated cardboard or craft foam
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Markers
  • Sharpie
  • Stickers, glitter glue, glitter pens (optional)

Hoppy Days Collage Art Project Instructions

First, make your background, with the clouds, sun, and sky. Glue it all down.

Next up is your mountains. Choose three colors of paper and sketch different mountain range shapes. Arrange and vary the shapes to add interest.

Then, create the middle ground. Create two green hills, adding a road to each. The road on the hill furthest away should be the smallest, to add depth.

Begin your foreground with a third hill and a road that’s even bigger than the last hill. Using markers, add grass and road textures. Add a few flowers. Don’t glue yet!

Create a tree and a bunny to add to your foreground hill. Use colored paper and markers to add details. You can even give your bunny a basket with something special in it.

Flip your foreground piece over and glue on strips of cardboard or craftfoam.

Glue the foam onto the paper prepared with the middle ground and background.

Your hoppy bunny collage now has depth and really hops! Errr – pops!
