Lucky Leprechaun Coin Video Lesson
What you'll need:
- Air-dry Clay or Model Magic
- Parchment paper (or a non-sticky surface)
- Toothpick, clay tools or found objects for texture
- Paint brush & water
- Paper towel
- Acrylic or craft paint
- Plate or palette
- Mod Podge (to seal and make it shiny)
Lucky Leprechaun Coin Instructions
Make sure to prepare the clay by rolling it between two hands to warm it up. This is important even with air-dry and Model Magic to reduce breakage.
Place the clay on a piece of parchment and flatten it with a hand. Roll the clay into a slab about ½ inch.
Use a cup or cookie cutter to cut out a circular shape, 3-4 inches in size.
Use the end of a paintbrush to draw your design. A shamrock or rainbow make for perfect leprechaun coins!
Or, use the excess clay to sculpt and add to your coin. If adding, make sure to scratch what you’re adding with a toothpick, add some slip (a mix of clay and water) and smooth it so that it stays tight.
Use the paintbrush or another object to press into the sides of the coin to give it texture (those nice ridges).
Grab your acrylic or craft paint and get painting!
If you have gold or glitter paint, now’s the time to grab it.
When finished, make sure to seal with Mod Podge. This will make it shiny and prevent it from cracking.
