What do you get when you mix a dog and a human? In the case of Dav Pilkey’s hit kid books series, you get a Dog Man crime-fighting canine super hero! A character who’s often got a special job! So let’s make a top secret art project!
Combinations are found all throughout mythology – think chimeras, centaurs, and mermaids, just to name a few.
Ask kids what creatures they’d combine, and they often have a creative, entertaining answer quicker than Dog Man can solve a crime!
In this project, students will either use Pilkey’s canine character or create their own combination, and give that creation a top secret box.
What will you create? And what will be their top secret?
Grab paper, pencil, and watercolors, and let’s create!
What you'll need:
- Pencil
- 12×18 Sulphite Paper
- Scissors
- Crayons
- Watercolor
- Water cup
- Paintbrush
- Sharpie
- Glue Stick
Top Secret Art Project Instructions
First, draw your character. To draw a dog man, start with the head, add a rectangular body, hat, ears, arms, legs, and feet.
Draw the emblem on the hat and chest.
Next, prepare the top secret flap.
Cut a piece of paper to the right size and fold it in half.
On the inside of the flap, choose what you place there and draw it.
Set the flap aside until you’ve painted and your paper is dry.
If desired, outline your character and top secret drawing in pen.
Watercolor your background, considering the mood your painting will give your overall piece. The sample shows a rainbow, which gives it a happy mood!
Glue the top secret box on, and you’re done!
