Art and Books…Two of My Favorite Things
There is nothing better than being able to read a book and then turn around and bring it to life through art. I adored The Wild Robot by Peter Brown, and have been so excited to see the full trilogy released. Both The Wild Robot Escapes and The Wild Robot Protects are gems!
All too often art projects focus only on picture books, but older kids love creating their favorite characters – and younger ones love creating characters from longer books as well.
This book has been incredibly popular for kids – and it’s also in many homeschool curriculums. And it begged for an art project featuring Roz the Robot in all of her glory. One day, I was playing around with crayons and experimenting. And thus was born The Wild Robot Art Project.
Grab these supplies
- 3 pieces of 9×12 watercolor or sulphite paper
- Watercolors
- Crayons
- Scissors
- Glue
Splatter painting and crayon rubbing help to create additional texture to this mountain scene.
These supplies may be simple, but the techniques are super fun for kids and they will be able to use them for multiple projects to come.
Of course I had to put Roz on the mountain, and add a cute little beaver to the bottom to pay homage to all of the animals who help and hinder Roz on her way.
